Take exit 3 from Route 9. If you are coming from Route 9 North, take a left off of the exit ramp. If you are coming from Route 9 South, take a right off the exit ramp on Main St. Approximately 1.5 miles later, there is a large plaza named “40.” Take the first left after the plaza.
4. Will my classes be safe?
Yes. Safety is a priority at Valley Shore Martial arts.
5. Do you offer weapons training?
Yes, we do offer weapons training on request. The weapons training is not necessary to advance in rank, but does provide students with additional training.
6. How long will it take to become reasonably proficient?
Proficiency is a relative term. As students become more adept in the martial arts, they generally realize that the learning never ends. However, many students become better within the first three months of joining Valley Shore Martial Arts. With hard work and dedication, most students can earn the rank of Black Belt in about 3 to 4 years.
7. How many classes per week should I attend?
At Valley Shore Martial Arts, we generally recommend that children under 13 attend 2-3 classes per week while those over 12 should attend 3 classes per week.
8. What styles do you offer?
At Valley Shore Martial Arts, we primarily teach a form of Kempo; however, we
also offer lessons in other systems such as Jujitsu (seminar based), Weapons
Training (private lessons), ground fighting, Kenpo, Self Defense, and Wing Chun Kung Fu. In addition to
our instructors' kempo training we encourage all instructors here at Valley Shore
Martial Arts to explore and train in additional arts. In fact most of the
instructors you will be training with have studied additional arts.
9. Do I need to be physically fit or need much coordination to start?
No. Anyone who has determination can succeed in the martial arts. Physical
fitness and improved coordination are 2 of the many byproducts achieved during
your training.
10. How will I know if classes have been cancelled due to inclement weather?
If you are concerned about the school being closed due
to weather simply call the school or look on the school's website under “news and
events” for important and current information. A copy of the monthly class
schedule will available to students.
11. I am a woman and I have been told that martial
arts are for men. Is this true?
Definitely not! In today’s society women need self defense as much, if not
more, than men do. We understand that some issues can be delicate and
private. We also understand that not all women feel comfortable training with
men. At Valley Shore Martial Arts we have a female instructor available for both
group classes and privates. Our instructor is not only a martial artist but also
a trained rape crisis counselor.
